Received 7, December, 2014 Received in revised form 19, December, 2014 Accepted 10, January, 2015 Published online 28, January, 2015 The gall stone formation (cholelithiasis) is well known global health problem since very early times. Various biochemical and patho-physiological factors have been reported to be associated with gall stone disease such as stasis of bile, obstruction in bile duct, infection in bile, obesity, oestrogen level, inflammation of gall bladder valve, defective function of liver and gall bladder, reduction in bile salt concentration, change in cholesterol and bilirubin concentration and various precipitating factors for stone formation. Risk factors of cholelithiasis include overweight, age (near or above 40 years), female-menopausal age and racism with risk history of cholelithasis as found more prevalent in Caucasians than in people of other races. A lack of melatonin could significantly contribute to gallbladder stones, as melatonin inhibits cholesterol secretion from the gallbladder to enhances the conversion of cholesterol to bile and is an antioxidant, capable of reducing oxidative stress to the gallbladder. Clinical researchers believe that gallstones may be caused by a combination of risk factors, including inherited body chemistry, body weight, gallbladder motility with cholesterol crystallization and dietary habits. Role of various metal ions e.g. copper, iron, calcium, phosphate, sodium and potassium were also found to be responsible for nucleation of gall stone and their settling in gall stone bladder in cholelithiasis patients.

Background and Purpose: Cholelithiasis is a common problem among patients with homozygous major and intermediate β-thalassemia due to chronic hemolysis, ineffective erythropoesis and other factors that causes variety of side effects. Hydroxyurea (HU) decreases hemolysis by increasing HbF production in homozygous β-thalassemia patients. Up to now, there have not been evidences about relationsh...
متن کاملLaparoscopic surgery for cancer: historical, theoretical, and technical considerations.
Surgery for cancer carries concerns of tumor dissemination related to tumor manipulation, tumor violation, and wound seeding. Minimally invasive surgery is now standard for several benign conditions, such as symptomatic cholelithiasis and surgical therapy of gastroesophageal reflux. With the minimally invasive surgery explosion of the 1990s, virtually every procedure traditionally performed via...

متن کاملFetal Cholelithiasis: Antenatal Diagnosis and Neonatal Follow-Up in a Case of Twin Pregnancy - A Case Report and Review of the Literature.
Fetal cholelithiasis is a rare finding during a third-trimester ultrasound with an average incidence rate of 0.07-1.15%. We report a case of fetal cholelithiasis in twins, observed in a patient with monochorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy hospitalized at our unit for signs of premature labor. We present the outcome of the 2 neonates with a clinical and sonographic follow-up. In addition, we off...
متن کاملFetal Cholelithiasis: A Diagnostic Update and a Literature Review
Fetal gallstones and cholelithiasis, detected by routine third trimester ultrasound, have been described in the literature with controversial clinical significance. We report a case of fetal cholelithiasis detected at 35 weeks gestation during a routine scan. The diagnosis was performed using an integrated 2-dimensional (2-D) and 3-dimensional (3-D) ultrasound approach in order to obtain a bett...
